Fabulous Friday-Mother's Day Card

Hello All!
Today our design team will be sharing our Mother's Day cards with you! Mine is using the Cameo Girls from Sugar Creek Hollow, along with a Mother's day sentiment. I think these ladies sort of represent a time line of how women have changed. Since these are digital images I was able to "digitally paper piece" the bonnet on the first lady. I really enjoy being able to do that, it really comes in quite handy! I printed the ladies twice and popped up the colored ones to give them some depth.

The frame is actually a part of this set and I used a versamark pen along with Perfect Pearls in bronze and gold. The photo doesn't show the beautiful finish the pearls gave it, but if you have used these you will know what I'm talking about.

I hope you will take the time to leave me a comment, visit the rest of the design team to see the awesome cards they made to share with you and of course, go to SCH's site to pick up your Friday Freebie and check out the "goodies"!!

Thanks for stopping by!

Friday is Sugar Creek Hollow Day!

It's Friday and time to share another image from the fabulous Sugar Creek Hollow line of digital stamps. If you don't have any of these images you are missing out! The main focus on these stamps is vintage, shabby and primitive! There are some adorable images; go check out the new images!

This particular card is using the collage stamp that was a Friday freebie last week. The flower was hand made using torn paper, inked with distress inks and then rolling the edges using a wood skewer. Pretty cool, huh! The previous post has a flower that was made the same way.....yea! I have found a new technique to play with!

Don't forget that Friday is freebie day at SCH, Tracy has an adorable image for you today that will have a set to match soon! Be sure to pick it up and leave some love there! Now, go check out all the other design team members and see what is being showcased!

Thanks for coming to visit, I would love to hear what you think of the card I shared today!

Flourished Bird on a Branch

I just feel in love with this adorable image when I found it at The Graphics Fairy.
I played with for a while and then tucked it away in a digital images folder, I ran into it this past weekend when I was working on a challenge at Flourishes Timeless Tuesday's challenge FTCC63. Thought it would be perfect for this particular sketch!

I managed to find another challenges that this cutie pie would fit:
SCS Inspiration challenge #IC228 ~ Crate Label Museum {04-17-10}
This particular inspiration challenge took you to a crate label museum, I have never seen so many labels in all my life. Beautiful labels, very colorful and quite easy to get lost in all the various topics. If you want to take a little tour click here. Be sure to click on a topic shown and you will be blown away at all the gorgeous labels.

It seems every time I post I am dragging my behind from a hard day, hmmm, this is no exception. It's not that I am a whiner, honest, it is just getting late and I have been pushing since very, very early this morning. Go ahead and snicker, it is late for me! :) I am off to put on pj's and read for awhile. Hope you all have a wonderful week, I will see you on Friday!

Fabulous Friday Sketch Challenge-Sugar Creek Hollow

Good grief, is it Friday again already! Who turned up the time clock?  The good thing about it being Friday is I have a card for you made from a Sugar Creek Hollow stamp! Now that is worth getting excited about!

This week the design team was given a sketch and told to go for it! Here is the sketch:
 Here is my card:

The photo is really not that great but it's the best one out the many that I took. It was late and I was using artificial light, however, you can see the diamond design if you look closely. The stamp is one of the Cameo girls. There is an entire set along with this fancy frame. This one reminds me just a teeny bit of Jacqueline Kennedy.  Be sure to go over to SCH and check out all the wonderful designs! You will love shopping there, and don't forget to pick up your Friday Freebie!!

 It should be lots of fun to go to each team member and see how this sketch was used. One thing is for sure; you will find some beautiful cards to feast your eyes on!

Sing to the Lord

 AFTER I FIXED IT!

This card started coming together very quickly until I got to the blasted ribbon. Once I got it in place around the card I added a touch of dotted adhesive in various spots to hold it in place; afterwards  when I decided I didn't really like it and wanted to remove it.  I fussed with it last night and couldn't get the adhesive off, this morning I looked at it again and decided there was just NO WAY I was going to submit this card the way it looked. So with teeth gritted I removed the ribbon, and using my trusty adhesive eraser started trying to get rid of the dot glue. Believe it or not, that stuff came off and allowed me to re-attach the ribbon in a more pleasing design. I was not happy with the original card but the re-do was great! Whew! This could have gone either way, I could have ruined hours of work but I got lucky this time!
                             BEFORE:

(The whole idea was to enter the card into a couple of challenges, but until I "repaired" my mess this card was headed for the round file. Don't you just hate when that happens! All that work and it is just not acceptable!)

OK, here are the challenges I have entered:
The Shining the Light Challenge at ODBD this time is a sketch.

The next is the SCS inspiration challenge IC227, Home Sweet ~; which is to make a card that says something about your home state, province, town or country. North Carolina is my state, and the state flower is the dogwood.

Thanks for coming by and allowing me to share my re-do with you. I would love to know what you think! Hoping you have a wonderfully blessed day! :)

Ask, Seek, Knock

These two cards were made prior to the release of the door set at Sugar Creek Hollow, consequently I never shared them with you. So I thought I would go ahead and post them.

This set is one of my favorites, it can be used as I have done with a faith theme but the door can be used as a "new home" card, "welcome" card, "Christmas" card; I'll bet you can think of other ways to use it! It is so versatile and looks good anyway you decide to showcase it!

On the first one I made it more of a spring or summer card with the flowers around the door, the second card feels more like a winter card with the stark look of bare branches on either side of the door. Each card presents a different feeling, which one do you like the best?  As I sit here I am thinking of other ways to presenting this image. One of the design team members made a beautiful Christmas card, it was just stunning!

Hopefully you are having a blessed weekend with sunshine and warmth, to my dear friends in the "north country" ..... take heart, spring is definitely on the way!

Thanks for dropping by, look around, leave your thoughts and comments, take a look at SCH. Hoping you have a wonderful weekend!!

Some food for thought:

This is a subject near and dear to my heart!

Here are some interesting facts about autism (from Autism Speaks):

Prevalence

* Autism affects 1 in 110 children - 1 in 70 boys
* Boys are 4 times more likely than girls to have autism
* Autism is the fastest-growing serious developmental disability in the US
* More children will be diagnosed with autism this year than with AIDS, diabetes & cancer combined

Prevalence vs. Private Funding

* Leukemia: Affects 1 in 1,200 / Funding: $277 million
* Muscular Dystrophy: Affects 1 in 100,000 / Funding: $162 million
* Juvenile Diabetes: Affects 1 in 500 / Funding: $156 million
* Autism Spectrum Disorder: Affects 1 in 110 / Funding: $79 million

National Institute of Health Funds Allocation

* Total 2009 NIH budget: $35.9 billion
* Of this, $196 million goes directly to autism research. This represents 0.5% of total NIH funding.
